There is a place 74 miles west of Santiago, Chile that has been turned into city sized canvas. Before leaving Chile, our host family brought us to a Valparaiso. The more we were able to explore the more I felt a subconscious feeling of joy due to the overwhelming artistic creativity that engulfed each building and street.
This harbor city is situated on a group of hills that neighbor an extremely active fault line. The city has endured a number of notable earthquakes including the most recent 8.8 magnitude quake of 2010. But through all of its natural hardships, the city has kept its beauty alive by painting over both destroyed and intact buildings. From a distance it looks as if someone spilled buckets of paint across each hill to create a city wide painting.
